When I met Krista, I was immediately impressed
Mental health and wellness is a topic I’ve always felt passionately about. So when Krista told me she supported widowed mothers as they learned to love life again, I knew I wanted to help.
That wasn’t the only reason she impressed me. Her long-running podcast, “The Widowed Mom Podcast,” consistently ranks in the top 0.5% of its category and has more than 350 episodes. She’s been helping widowed moms through her programs, Mom Goes On and Grief Essentials since 2018.
But behind the scenes, all that meaningful work and popularity wasn’t translating into leads the way it used to.
- 50% of the leads she received weren't eligible for her services, despite thousands of dollars in monthly ad spend
- Her 300+ podcast episodes weren't appearing in search
- Her YouTube episodes weren't gaining watch time or subscribers
- Her podcast was popular with loyal listeners, but individual episodes weren't reaching her target audience
What was once successful in her marketing was no longer working.
Here’s the frustrating thing about marketing: you can do everything right and still watch your results slip, with no obvious reason why.
Krista had built a capable team around her. Her content was excellent, her clients loved her, and her program models were solid. She’d also spent months pulling reports, trying to find the answer in the data.
But the results that used to come reliably had become unpredictable, and nothing she looked at explained the shift. She came to me looking to add SEO to grow her organic leads.
Her team was strong. What was missing was the big-picture view.
This was never about the quality of her hires. Each of them was excellent at their piece of the work. What no one had was the vantage point to step back and see how all those pieces fit together, and where the gaps between them were quietly costing her leads.
That cross-channel view is exactly what I bring as a digital marketing strategist.
When I traced how the small details were shaping the bigger picture, I found that:
- Her existing content could work harder than it was.
- Her show notes and YouTube descriptions auto-uploaded with a basic description, nothing built for SEO
With a backlog of content to update, I needed an efficient solution. And I built one.
SEO Podcast
Shownotes
Keyword research and podcast show note optimization of 300+ episodes.
Custom GPT
Created a GPT to hand off to her podcast team so that they could continue to optimize new podcast episodes.
YouTube Channel Overhaul
I subcontracted a YouTube strategist to audit the channel and set a clear direction, then added new content formats to give her more chances to be found.
Competitor Research
I researched the topics performing well for her competitors and brought them to Krista to reignite her love of her own content.
Website Optimization
YouTube Content Creation
I repurposed a few short videos each month into 12 to 15 videos in fresh formats, and handled the scheduling and posting.
6 Months Later, the Results Were Clear
Ranking keywords went from 396 to 775 , a 96% increase.
Her YouTube subscribers more than doubled, going from 624 → 1,462.
Her watch time per month went from 322 hours → 1.5k hours/month. And 74% of those watchers were brand new viewers.
Her program applications tripled, going from 400/month to a peak of 1,200.
And, with the Custom GPT I built for them, her team can keep pace with that growth by optimizing the content she creates going forward.
- We made the most of the content she had, instead of asking her to spend more time creating things from scratch
- We used funnels to get people where they wanted to be, instead of just focusing on increasing volume
- We optimized her content for each platform to give her topical authority and help her appear in traditional and AI searches
From Sophia,
I meet a lot of Kristas in my work.
Sometimes even the strongest team needs someone to come in, look at the whole picture from a high level, and map the path from where a business is to where it wants to be.
That isn’t your job. It’s mine. And once I find the issue, you can count on me to go above and beyond to fix it.
